Gigantoonz: Slot Review

What should you do after creating a work that defines an era? Is your career peak over, or should you continue creating and strive to produce a better work?

Play’n GO, the developer behind the popular grid slot Reactoonz, has released several follow-ups including a new game called Gigantoonz. While some may view this as an attempt to profit off of the success of Reactoonz rather than innovate, it cannot be denied that the studio is revisiting the theme once again.

Gigantoonz is a game that combines features from Reactoonz 2 and Dr Toonz. One difference is that the game area is now larger, with an 8×8 grid. However, this doesn’t necessarily result in more wins since at least 6 matching symbols are needed to form winning clusters. The game’s visual design includes a swirling electric background similar to part two, but with a neater, tidier layout. It also has a cluster tracking meter on the left and Quantumeter on the right. That’s Gigantoonz in a nutshell.

Gigantoonz has a gameplay and math model that is similar to Reactoonz, which is known for being volatile. Therefore, you should expect the same level of volatility with Gigantoonz, as it has a highly volatile math model rated 10 out of 10.

The RTP of the game has decreased to 96.25%, and it could drop even further depending on the configuration. The game is playable with bets ranging from 20 p/c to £/€100 per spin. The game’s symbols consist of cute Toonz characters, with five one-eyed symbols paying out 5-20x for a cluster of 30 or more, and five two-eyed symbols paying out 50-1,250x for a cluster of 30 or more. When a winning cluster is formed, the symbols disappear, and new symbols fill the grid. This process continues until there are no more winning clusters.

Mega Symbols

Mega symbols can appear in sizes ranging from 2×2 to 7×7. Although each mega symbol only counts as one symbol in a win, its cluster value is determined by a random number up to 13. When a winning mega symbol is removed from the grid, it leaves behind a wild and any empty spaces below it are filled with 1×1 versions of the same mega symbol.

Quantum Wilds

After a spin that does not result in a win, the reels may randomly receive between 5 to 10 Quantum Wilds. These Quantum Wilds can substitute for any symbol on the reels.

Quantumeter

Each symbol that wins counts as 1 charge on the Quantumeter. However, mega symbols count for their cluster value instead. The Quantumeter can contain up to 100 charges and activates 4 modifiers once it reaches 4 preset levels. The first three modifiers are as follows:

1. Disintegration – Collect 25 charges to eliminate all instances of 4 symbols chosen at random.

2. Metamorphosis – Collect 50 charges to randomly convert all instances of one symbol into another, including mega symbols.

3. Radiation – Collect 75 charges to add 1-4 mega symbols and 2-5 Quantum Wilds in random positions.

The modifier called “Gargantoonz” will activate after collecting 100 charges, occurring in two steps:

• Step 1 – Whenever there are mega symbols present, they all transform into mega Gargantoonz. Regardless of how many mega symbols there are, at least three mega Gargantoonz will appear. Additionally, 2 to 4 Gargantoonz that are 1×1 in size will also appear. It’s important to note that mega Gargantoonz do not disappear after a win.
• Step 2 – The mega Gargantoonz symbols can be broken down into smaller Gargantoonz symbols of size 1×1, which are then removed in the usual manner.

We attempted to remain impartial while developing Gigantoonz following the divisive response to Dr Toonz and Reactoonz 2 within the community. Reactoonz 2 faced criticism for its unclear chances of winning. The game initially offered a starting payout of 3,000x, which was lower than its predecessor, but was later raised to 5,083x to compensate. Although the rules looked confusing on paper, they made more sense in practice. Comparatively, Gigantoonz is less complicated. The maximum win is clearly stated, and it is slightly lower than Reactoonz 2. The gameplay is straightforward and closer to the original Reactoonz slot. Simply get wins, fill the Quantumeter, and activate some features. Repeat this process.

Gigantoonz has some unique rules that make it different from other games. One of these rules is the introduction of mega symbols, which are much larger than regular symbols. However, the value of these symbols is randomly assigned and can only go up to 13, which can be disappointing if a large mega symbol has a low value. The other features work fine and the use of Gigantoonz symbols at the fourth level of the Quantumeter could be exciting. The Radiation modifier at the third level is also quite powerful. However, progressing from level two to level three and beyond won’t be easy. It’s clear that achieving Gigantoonz symbols won’t be a simple task. Although winning potential is similar to previous games in the range when pushed to their limit, it has the lowest winning potential so far at only 4,000x the bet. We will have to wait and see if Play’n GO will increase it in the future.

Although multiple Mega Gargantoonz can be unleashed on the fourth feature trigger, they still couldn’t beat the original in terms of player experience. Nevertheless, Gigantoonz offers a lot of engaging gameplay, making it an attractive addition to the ‘toonz’ series of slot games.
